Our juniors and seniors recently had an interesting opportunity to experience college life firsthand at Penn State Greater Allegheny. This visit was designed to expose our students to the academic opportunities and campus experiences that await them after graduation.
Students heard from several Penn State staff members, including the branch president and department heads, who shared valuable information about academics, areas of study, financial support, and campus life. These conversations gave our students a comprehensive look at what college has to offer and how to prepare for the transition.
The highlight of the visit was the hands-on learning experiences. Students participated in an engaging Cyber Security session and worked alongside Penn State professors in a biology lab, where they dissected cow eyes and examined sheep brains. These college-level activities allowed our students to step into the shoes of university students and gain real-world experience in their potential fields of study.
Penn State offers these opportunities throughout the year for local high school students to experience college-level courses. We’re grateful for partnerships like this that expose our students to the possibilities ahead and help them envision their future with confidence.
