Why Give To Imani?

Last year, Imani served 170 students; most of these students reside in Pittsburgh, Wilkinsburg, Penn Hills and Woodland Hills. The vast majority of Imani students reside in underserved communities, are raised in single parent homes, and live at or below the federal poverty guideline. The 2020 Census data reports that the median income for East Hills residents was $25,000 per year, compared to a median income of $42,500 for the City of Pittsburgh, and $55,000 in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Unemployment for East Hills residents was also noted to be twice the rate of the overall unemployment rate for the City of Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, for residents of the East Hills, quality educational choices are limited. Imani fills part of this gap by providing a high-quality educational experience in a safe and caring environment.

SOURCES OF FUNDING

Imani’s $3,286,500 operating budget is funded from a variety of sources. The tax credit programs of OSTC and EITC provide approximately 49% of the overall budget, which includes tax credit support from corporations, foundations and individuals. Foundation grants provide another significant source of funding at 20%, which is closely followed by government grants at 11%. The balance is made up of corporate and individual donations, and tuition. Imani charges its families $1,600 for the first child and $400 for each additional child. This constitutes a mere 5% of the budget.
